Act One.

After earning my MA in Film Studies from University College Dublin, the unimaginable happened … Tarantino didn’t call begging to direct my next screenplay.

Neither did Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, or Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Bastards. The whole lot of them.

Once I was done licking my wounds and picking up the broken pieces of my fragile ego, I got back to work, did a little writing, and a whole lot of learning.

I wrote shitty screenplay after shitty screenplay for a couple of decades, launched a screenwriting magazine with Robert McKee (short-lived … long story) where I was mentored by the legend himself, took several life-changing courses from Hal Croasmun at ScreenwritingU, had a sitcom pilot produced, was selected for Adimverse’s first writers’ room with Rob McElhenney and Keyonna Taylor, and even had the recent pleasure of the great Chuck Russell offer to direct the pilot episode for another show I wrote.

It’s been a hell of a ride … and it feels like things are finally starting to click.

Can’t wait for the next two decades.

Bring on Act Two.

“Matthew Lutz is a Hollywood hidden treasure. I’ve worked with him on some award-winning Film/TV scripts, and he truly is a world-class writer. He’s got a distinct, bold voice, is a master of quick-witted dialogue, and blends the perfect amount of heart and humor into everything he writes. He’s a writing machine, and he’s got this chameleon-like adaptability that’s unmatched in any writer I’ve ever worked with. I have zero doubts you’ll be seeing his name in lights very soon.”
